CARD FEEDING · BATCH HANDOVER TRIAL
A preset quantity is only the beginning. Check how each card batch remains separate through discharge, collection and transfer to a bander before agreeing a production setup.
For a print finisher or packing team preparing card bundles, the useful output is a clearly separated group ready for the next task. Cards may leave the feeder correctly and still lose their grouping if adjacent batches overlap, a collection tray becomes crowded or an unfinished group is mixed with completed work.
This guide focuses on that handover. It is a proposed buyer-and-supplier acceptance trial, not a published performance result or a machine operating procedure. Use the delivered instructions and a trained operator for all machine actions. Agree the materials, collection arrangement and acceptance criteria before the demonstration.
Start with a tabletop friction card feeder when the task is to separate and dispense flat pieces. If the task is to count a stack that stays together, the paper-counter reference-count trial addresses a different material-handling process.
Write the product code, revision and required pieces per group on the job brief. For a two-card batch, specify whether it contains two identical cards. If the order requires one of each of two designs, identify that as a separate collation or verification requirement. A quantity setting alone does not establish card identity, sequence or a mixed-design set.
Describe what the operator must receive: two loose pieces kept together, an aligned stack ready for a band, or another agreed arrangement. State the permitted orientation and whether corners, printed surfaces or coatings need particular protection. Use representative production stock rather than a different card chosen only for a convenient demonstration.
For the KEEPWAY KPW-150, KPW-300 and KPW-420 series, preset quantity and batch feeding are confirmed functions. The series includes servo drive and pneumatic components. Conveyor and production-line arrangements are additional configurations. Their final layout must be selected for the required receiving task.
Watch the actual outlet and collection position through several successive batches under the agreed trial conditions. Identify how the end of one group and the start of the next can be distinguished. Do not assume that a pause, visible gap, dropper or separate collection pocket is included unless it is demonstrated in the quoted configuration.
Check each observed group independently before releasing it downstream. Record pieces that arrive skewed, overlap an adjacent group or become difficult to collect without disturbing the next batch. Retain the original observation when a setting or guide position is changed, then identify the new trial separately.
The supplier should demonstrate the collection method intended for the purchase: bench collection, a specified tray or a configured conveyor. An outlet filmed with ample empty space may behave differently once the receiving area is occupied. Agree an ordinary collection rhythm and review what happens when the operator is occupied with the downstream task.
Watch the KEEPWAY two-card batch demonstration. The clip shows the output arrangement and two-card result; it does not document every programming step or establish performance on a different stock.
A useful trial includes the events expected during ordinary work, such as a planned pause and replenishing the hopper. Have the supplier demonstrate these using the machine's documented procedure. Record the batch state before the event and the physical output afterwards. Do not copy another feeder's reset or restart sequence.
Ask what the particular control mode does with a partial batch: retain it, finish it after a permitted restart, clear its count or require a separate recovery procedure. These behaviors must be established for the quoted machine. A setting labeled “batch” does not answer the question.
Before production, agree a designated location and identification method for incomplete or uncertain groups. Keep them out of accepted output until their quantity and identity have been resolved. Record who checks them and what evidence allows release. If the operator cannot confidently associate the displayed state with the pieces already discharged, document the issue for correction rather than treating the group as complete.
In the KEEPWAY workflow video, cards feed onto a conveyor; an operator gathers and transfers the batch to a separate downstream banding station. The demonstration includes manual handling. The feeder listing does not include a built-in bander, and the conveyor is an additional configuration.
Watch card feeding followed by separate banding.
Trace an accepted group from collection through alignment, banding and finished-bundle removal. Check whether any pieces are left behind or gathered from an adjacent group during transfer. Review the actual bundle dimensions and permitted band position with the KPW-SDJ150 paper/OPP banding machine separately. Feeder material limits do not establish bander compatibility.
If automatic transfer is required, request a defined integration scope covering the receiving arrangement, sequence and responsibilities. External triggers, communication signals and synchronized control need project confirmation; they are not established as standard features of this tabletop series.
For staffing and capacity planning, agree the timed start and finish points. Record accepted groups over the observed period, together with collection, replenishment, downstream handling and any rechecks. Keep the feeder's piece output distinct from completed banded bundles. A listed pieces-per-minute figure is insufficient to establish finished groups per minute for a small batch.
| Observation point | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Normal consecutive batches | Preset quantity, checked quantity of each group, separation at the outlet and collection method |
| Planned pause or replenishment | Documented action, batch state, output already present and result of the first following group |
| Manual transfer | Group identifier, pieces reaching the bander, alignment and any left behind or mixed |
| Finished bundle | Quantity, band position, card condition and decision against the agreed sample |
Choose the trial length and repetitions around the intended job with the supplier. No universal sample size or pass rate is prescribed here. Keep unsuccessful groups and unresolved observations in the record so a quotation review reflects the complete trial.
Provide card dimensions, thickness and finish; pieces per batch; whether the designs are identical; photographs or samples; collection preference; required finished output; and details of the next operation. Include available space, transfer height and destination electrical supply. State which handling steps you expect to remain manual.
Use the blank batch handover record below. Select and copy it into your own job record, then enter the agreed trial conditions. Leave results blank until the trial is performed.
