Scrap Metal Baler: Material and Bale Review | Keepway

A hydraulic scrap metal baler should be selected around the material entering the chamber and the bale accepted by your buyer. A machine that handles one clean, consistent scrap stream may need a different configuration for another. 1. Describe the scrap before choosing a press

Identify the metal, typical piece shape, dimensions and thickness, and whether the supply is consistent or mixed. Sheet offcuts, cans, bulky pieces and turnings should be assessed separately. Include the largest and most difficult pieces, not only the easiest samples. Material descriptions and a press-force figure alone do not establish that a particular machine will accept your feed.

State how material arrives, how it will be loaded, and whether sorting or preparation takes place upstream. Keep unknown, sealed or pressurized items out of a trial until the supplier has reviewed the feed and provided the applicable operating requirements. An application review is not a substitute for the supplied machine's operating instructions and site procedures.

2. Obtain the receiving buyer's bale requirements

Ask your recycler, foundry or other receiver for permitted materials, bale dimensions, handling limits and any density or contamination criteria. Record their actual acceptance conditions. Do not assume that a denser bale automatically earns a higher price, melts faster or is suitable for every receiving process.

Share the collection vehicle, loading method and storage arrangement as well. The required result is a bale your operation can handle and your buyer can accept. Compare the chamber and discharge arrangement against that result before selecting a configuration.

3. Make a representative trial measurable

1. Agree on the sample's composition, preparation and input mass, and label each batch.
2. Record loading, compression, discharge and handling time separately. A compression cycle is not the complete production rate.
3. Measure each trial bale and record its mass, condition and discharge behavior.
4. Check the result with the receiving buyer where their approval is required.
5. List the accepted feed types and operating conditions in the quotation or acceptance record.

Use trial results to discuss output and expected storage or transport changes. The actual outcome depends on the scrap stream, preparation, operating pattern and receiving requirements; this page does not assign a universal volume-reduction percentage or payback period.

4. Compare quotations on the same scope

Ask each supplier to identify the proposed model, approved feed, chamber arrangement, supplied electrical configuration, loading and discharge method, and any separately priced equipment. Confirm installation access, service access, operator training and the documents supplied with the machine. Keep required options separate from the base machine price.

If you estimate a business return, use your own collection charges, labor time, energy cost, operating hours and buyer's terms. Distinguish measured trial results from assumptions. A machine quotation should not be treated as a guarantee of scrap value or business profit.
