Pallet Wrapper Loading Access: A Site Approval Checklist
Before ordering a turntable pallet wrapper, check how the loaded pallet will reach it, how the handling truck will leave, and how the finished load will be removed. A machine that fits the floor plan can still be difficult to load.
This guide helps warehouse and production teams prepare a marked-up layout for quotation and installation planning. Use it for a new wrapping station, a change from forklift to pallet-jack loading, or a larger pallet format.
1. Draw the complete loading route
Start your sketch at the place where an unwrapped load waits. Mark the approach direction, the wrapper location, the unloading route and the finished-pallet waiting position. Include columns, doors, nearby equipment and pedestrian routes. Show which measurements are actual site measurements and which are estimates.
Draw three separate boundaries: the machine footprint; the path swept by the pallet and load during rotation; and the space needed for loading, operator access, film replacement and service. Ask for these boundaries on the proposed machine drawing. They should not be assumed to be the same size.
2. Match the loading method to the proposed machine
| Loading method | Information to send | What to confirm on the quotation drawing |
|---|---|---|
| Forklift | Truck type, loaded pallet dimensions, fork entry side and approach direction. | Positioning and fork withdrawal space, pallet support and the route after loading. |
| Hand pallet jack and ramp | Actual jack model, fork length/spacing, wheel positions, underside clearance and loaded pallet weight. | Ramp arrangement and transition geometry, permitted loading equipment, installed footprint and clearance for the jack to withdraw. |
| Powered pallet truck | Truck data sheet, loaded dimensions and operating layout, including whether the operator walks or rides. | Explicit compatibility for that truck. Approval for a hand pallet jack should not be treated as approval for a powered truck. |
| Shaped or low-profile loading arrangement | Pallet underside photographs, fork and wheel dimensions, loading direction and product overhang. | The exact pallet/truck combination, opening geometry and supplied loading arrangement. Confirm availability for the proposed equipment. |
Loading arrangements differ between manufacturers and configurations. For example, Lantech's G Series information describes ramp loading with a pallet jack, while Robopac's Rotoplat TP3 information describes a shaped platform with selectable loading sides. These examples explain why the loading arrangement belongs in the specification; their options and ratings are not Keepway equipment specifications.
For a separate overview of the shaped-platform approach, see our M-type pallet wrapper selection notes. This checklist focuses on approving the installation layout and recording the agreed loading conditions.
3. Record the real load, including what overhangs the pallet
Measure both the wooden or plastic pallet and the outside of the loaded goods. Identify the heaviest, tallest and most awkward loads; they may be different products. Note off-centre loads, loose layers, protruding cartons and any requirement for top support. A large turntable alone does not confirm that a load is suitable for rotation.
Keepway's pallet stretch wrapper selection page distinguishes the KPW-T1650 standard machine from T1850 custom configurations. Turntable size, a top platen and mast height can be discussed for custom applications. Final dimensions and the operating envelope must be confirmed for the chosen configuration. Do not infer turntable diameter from the T1850 model name.
If a top platen is requested, explain the load's top surface and permitted contact. If a taller mast is requested, provide the loaded height and available overhead space, including obstructions. Ask how installation and service access affect the drawing.
4. Review the site before approving the order
- Floor and route: show joints, changes in level, drains, slopes and obstacles. Have the site and equipment teams confirm the installation requirements; do not improvise ramp dimensions from a photograph.
- Power and services: provide the actual supply voltage, frequency and phase. Identify the proposed connection position and any additional services required by the selected options.
- People and materials: mark film-roll storage, operator controls, waiting pallets and pedestrian movement. Keep installation and operating clearances subject to the supplier's instructions and site review.
- Future formats: list any planned pallet or truck changes now. An accepted layout for one combination should be reviewed before another is introduced.
5. Keep one written approval record
Use the following record when comparing quotations. “To be confirmed” is a valid status until the responsible team supplies evidence. Do not replace missing dimensions with a generic clearance figure.
| Approval item | Evidence to attach | Record the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Pallet and load | Minimum/maximum pallet L × W; loaded L × W × H; weight; photographs. | Approved load combinations and exclusions. |
| Truck and loading path | Truck model/data sheet; fork and wheel measurements; approach sketch. | Loading equipment and direction accepted for this configuration. |
| Installed layout | Supplier drawing with ramp, rotation envelope, mast, service access and site boundaries. | Drawing revision, open questions, reviewer and date. |
| Options and utilities | Written scope for turntable, top platen, mast and electrical supply. | Included items, optional items and site work required. |
| Acceptance trial | Representative pallet, truck and load; agreed loading, withdrawal and wrapping observations. | Observed result, unresolved issues and approval before routine use. |
Ask the supplier to identify anything the factory trial cannot reproduce, such as your floor conditions or actual truck. Agree what must be checked during installation. This planning record supports a technical discussion; it is not an installation drawing or a substitute for operating instructions.
Send a layout pack for a useful quotation
Send five items: a marked-up site sketch, loaded-pallet dimensions and weight, pallet underside photographs, the handling-truck details, and required turntable/top-platen/mast options. Tell us your target pallets per hour and who performs loading, film handling and unloading so the whole station can be considered.
Discuss my pallet wrapper configuration
You can begin with an email enquiry. A phone or WhatsApp number is optional and can help with follow-up photos, available demonstrations and configuration questions.
Common buying questions
Is a loading ramp included with the standard wrapper?
Do not assume inclusion from a product photograph. Ask the quotation to identify the loading arrangement, its dimensions and the equipment it is intended to accept.
Can one drawing cover all our pallet sizes?
It can list several approved combinations, but each relevant pallet, load and truck combination needs to be considered. Identify the combinations outside the agreed scope.
Will a top platen make every unstable load suitable?
No. Describe load construction and contact constraints for evaluation. The complete load, wrapping settings and proposed support need review; a top platen is an option, not a universal acceptance guarantee.
